p.1 #1 · My 1D Mark II AF is suddenly way off

I shot an indoor soccer tournament today, and to my horror every single shot is unsharp, the camera focuses behind the players. At first I suspected a new lens but later found it does this with all lenses. Near objects are almost in focus but the further away they are the worse the focus error gets, the camera focuses too far away, and the error is *large*. Some quick tests indicate that the lenses work fine on my 20D so I guess something must have happened with the 1D2. I'll test some more over the weekend to make sure and then it's off to Canon service with the body.

Anyone have an idea how it can suddenly behave like this?

Perhaps this is too obvious, but it didn't get dropped or otherwise impacted, I assume?

I have never heard of this before. Please keep us informed as you learn more about what is going on.

One possiblity is that there is some big dust particle on the AF sensor. Gently lift up the mirror part way and use a bulb blower vigorously. May not be it, but its easy to try.

Another thing you may want to try is to re-install the latest firmware and reset all camera default. Please don't ask me why as the 1DMk2 is just like a computer, which may help by re-boot . Good luck.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Shiva, I did drop the camera once but that was some time ago and the camera has been working fine until now.

Mike, dust has been suggested to me by several people, I'll try blowing the mirror(s) clean.

Stephen, a "reboot" might be something to try too. Computers are unpredictable.

sleepwalker33, I don't have the N model.

Brian, I'll report once I know what's up.
