For those who might be checking their EN-EL3's for the recall... D50/D70/D100 owners who are thinking about getting a new D200 (and you know who you are ) might ortta wait a little while.
Here's my thinking; the Nikon site says we will receive a replacement... either EL3a or EL3e. The EL3e is fully downward compatible to all previous EL3 applications (D50/D70/D100) but the EL3a will not work in the D200.
I'm not a smart guy (and I don't play one on the internet) but I wish now that I'd waited awhile and let EL3a stocks clear while EL3e stocks built up. I guess all I can do is hope that mine turns out to be a EL3e.
if your EL3a have problem.... you want to 've it replaced sooner but not later ('cos you need to use them)
if your EL3a don't 've problem (like the 3 i use and i do wish they can turn into EL3e after i woke up tomorrow morning) and is not in the recall list.... you can't get them replaced.
D100, D70, D50 can all use EL3a..i think they've really a lot of stock...and spare a lot for replacment.
I put a note with my battery that I was returning that I would prefer the EL3e as my replacement if possible because I was on a waiting list for 2 D200s. We'll see if they do it. No big deal if they don't.
So much for my theory about waiting... watching the big brown truck as it rumbled noisily down my street today, I saw the small white bag tumble out of the back. My new battery has arrived. Lo and behold, it's an
EN-EL3eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !
Battleship gray in a pretty silver box. I think I'll buy a lotto ticket today!
