Wow. Excellent work. I love them for their sense of fun. How do you make the selections and are they outline selections or can you be sloppier than that? I imagine if the background is identical in each shot you could be really sloppy, but where individuals overlap you would have to be really accyrate. How long would you estimate to create an image like this? Include setup/shooting time as well as pp.
I might have to try this. Why the need for flash? Don't you think you could do a natural light version?

Amazing work . Inspiring. After seeing those I immediately thought, this years christmas card is going to be a little different. =)
I had to have a quick go with a friend, just for fun. My effort is nothing compared to the original, but then again, I did the whole thing in about 30 minutes. I might do some more later...
oops, I blew the photo on the wall didn't I I was looking for some shortcuts. It was fun though....
Thats great for 30 minutes. Not having a flash. I might have to do this during the day outside or in my well lit living room. I wonder what would happend if you did it in a non controlled environment like a park pointed at the play equipment. Or a sports game.
My head hurts just looking at all those kids. I've seen this done before, but never with so many layers. It looks like it could be a real project to get everything right with shadows etc.
Nate, those photos are fantastic. One with kids is hilarious
I have to try something crazy with my kids.
I tried another method and it's very fast. Captured few shots of myself and did the comp in After Effects with difference matte key with few masks for les than a 10 minutes. AE can export psd file with all layers separated and other PP could be finished in PS.
I really like these - and might try one with my four year old daughter when she 'helps' to put up the christmas decorations and dres the tree this year!
(sorry I dont know how to link - this is my first post here.)
I didn't have the luxury of a single viewpoint and tripod - I just walked around taking picturea over a wide area trying to keep the relative posittion of the sun constant.
