I have an 80-400VR but have broken my tripod collar. This lens is quite long and heavy and I don't think it will be safe to just hang it from my D70 with only the D70 on my tripod.
Does anyone know of a Nikon 80-400VR tripod collar for sale OR any third party collars. I have heard about 'Kirk' collars but where can you buy them in the UK and are they any good?
I use the Kirk on my 80-400. It is a night/day difference over the Nikon collar. The only drawback, you can't reverse the lens hood for storage with this collar, but for me that was not an issue.
I have a Kirk for the 80-400, as well, and it is terrific. Jacko is correct about the drawback, and I simply bought another (longer) lens case to carry the lens with the tripod collar attached. Gregg
Has anybody bought a RRS or Kirk Collar for the 80-400 and have no need for their old Nikon collar? The RRS/Kirk collars are quite expensive so if anybody has an old unused collar they wish to sell......
