The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is intended only for cropped sensors, but I was curious about how bad the vignetting might be on a 5D. Well, it's pretty bad. It's a sharp lens, except for the big black circle. This was taken at f/11 to try and minimize the vignetting...
That is incredibly funny looking lol. I'd never expect to see that from a decent lens co. but if they actually warn that it's for crop cameras only then I guess it's to be expected.
Actually, you want to open up the aperture to minimize the vignetting. Stopping it down will only serve to bring the edges of the image circle much more sharply into focus (as one would expect when stopping down any lens). The vignetting is obvious even on the 1.3x bodies, so Sigma really did design this for the 1.5x/1.6x bodies only...

hmmm... geeeez i admit it.... ive had 2 large japanese beers.
I have that Sigma. Its in-fact incredibly sharp in the central 80% of the frame on the 20D ... WHEN its in focus...
To be honest I don't know what this post proves? Sigma is very clear that this lens is suited for APS-C cropped sensors like the 10D, 20D, 300D, 350D. This is to be expected if you try to fit a lens with a 1.6x crop APS-C image circle to a 35mm full-frame.
For the record, my 30mm f/1.4 has not missed focus one time yet. Its been actually very reliable for me and a very very pleasant ownership experience. Sharpness (particularly centre) is great right from f/1.4.
