You have sharp eyes Suzanne! Yes, it's a windmill (converted to restaurant). It would have been cool if it had been bigger, to provide more of a focal point in that part of the image.
I lived in the Netherlands for 7 years, so I am always glad to see a windmill arm or two peeking up in a picture! Reminds me of good times. Quite a contrast between technological eras, though, isn't it! Modern bridge and ancient wind power.
Click on the " view all entries" link at the top of this page, someone already thought of it;-}. Bet that Modulos(?) Graphite bridge would've been killer!
Ahh... there's a second "bridge" I thought about, the one in a musical arrangement. I don't quite know how to depict it though, maybe some sheet music and a nicely OOF saxophone in the background?
Such a great tonal range, and the composition is so fine it makes a static subject extremely dynamic - emotionally moving, and almost physically moving!
Cool Jane! A word of caution though, I find I like this lens much better on a 1.6x camera, you get a lot of useless black around the image circle and the edges aren't all that great on this lens (CA and poor sharpness). I feel the "good" part of the lens is better used to fill the 1.6x frame than the 1.3x. Not wanting to discourage you, it's a fun lens, but just so you know and if you have any chance of testing one on the 1DII first.
Really inspired use of the 8mm. It's really dizzying. The inclusion of the windmill arm just adds enough to ground you and give you a sense of perspective. Top marks here!
