Hey, the meeting can happen whenever everyone wants. I just offered the 15th and 16th as most people who have PM'ed and e-mailed me liked thoase dates. I'll be there for 12 days, so anytime is fine by me, even a weekday. If you want to get together before I get there, that awesome too. I just hope some people will stick around long enough for me to say hi to.
I would definitely be interested in meeting people for fall photography, Oct 15-16 seems a bit late for Vermont/NH/Maine, unless you shoot in the southern part of the state. From my past experience when the forecast shows peak fall colors, most of the trees are already sheading their leaves. Anyways, it will be fun to meet people and do some fall photography.
This has become very complicated. I'm up here in Maine and have been following this thread. Personally the beauty of this region is not just the peak colors but also just after when leaves are hitting the ground. Besides it always rains during the peak weekend anyhow..

myself post is the best - the tour buses don't shake the tripod!

While October 15th seems late to me too (as a local, I know my house is already past peak by this date in Central Mass.), it is interesting that both Moose Peterson and Joseph Van Os have photo tours going on approx. 10/8 thru 10/14 in Acadia.
I'm thinking Acadia might be okay on those dates.
I agree with the earlier concern about the weekend of 10/8 because it is Columbus weekend and most school kids have either a 3 or 4 day break.
OK, I want to come. Wondering if there is anyone coordinating this thing? I'd be coming alone and while I dont necessarily mind shooting solo, it'd be nice to spend at least some of my time with others.

Anyone in the North-east States who wants to avoid the tour buses should consider crossing the border and checking the foliage in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, etc.. You'd have to do this earlier, of course.
I'm going to try to do some foliage shoots this fall as well, but I don't think I'll have the time to get down to the States and meet up with everyone. Maybe next year.
Anyway, have fun everyone.

Come on Steve; these guys don't know any more than we do, and if they did, they wouldn't be leading photo tours. The dates they book their tours have more to do with their personal desires, schedules, and the local room rates than anything else.
I've been in vermont in the first two weeks and with the rain that year it was already "past peak" and the leaves had washed off the trees, while other times it was beautiful. Same for HN and ME.
The Kangamangus highway in NH can still be beautiful even after it's peaked. You just don't know what you're going to get, so as long as everyone has the right attitude and doesn't expect perfection things should go well.
Local here... in Bangor Maine. Although you just never know when the leaves will peak... in my experience Acadia NP tends to turn significantly later than the rest of mid-Maine. Am planning myself on getting down there to show another FM'er (bfphoto) around on October 17th (that's when his cruise ship docks in Bah Habah). I fully expect that there will be great color at that time... FWIW
PS That is as long as we get a "normal" fall with no unexpected early frosts or windy storms etc.
I just bought a ticket, putting me in to Manchester NH on the 11th. Leaving again on the 16th. I have a few days to change the dates if I want. You think this is a reasonable window or should I move things around?
You should be fine Eric. That's a good time for foliage *somewhere* in the area actually...never know until the season starts of course. (Actually it is just getting going on stressed trees now.) --c
I've finally made all the arrangements for myself. Since my main reason for this trip is to photograph the fall foliage, I've decided to concentrate most of my time in Vermont and a little bit in New Hamshire and Maine. I don't have plans to visit Acadia NP (been there, done that ).
In a somewhat counterclockwise loop from Boston, for the first 2/3 of the trip, I'll be concentrating on the areas around North Woodstock, NH; St. Johnsbury, VT; Stowe, VT; and Woodstock, VT. I will then go to Portland, Maine. I plan to head up to Oquossac and work my way south through Upton, Bethel, and Fryeburg, taking lots of backroads. The following is my itinerary. I'll have my cell phone with me (206-250-7944). Call, PM or e-mail me and let's see if a few of us can meet up, if not for photography, then just for dinner.

I'll be in Mass from the 14th through the 22nd and plan on being in the Bershires for two days the 18th and 19th but have a full agenda with family and all. Sounds like a great gathering is taking place. If you're in Vermont drop down and take in Mt. Greylock and the Appalachian Trail to the east towads New Hampshire. Great photo ops.along the way; rivers, streams, farmland and waterfalls, etc. Have a great trip.
I fly into Albany on 9/30. From there I'll be spending 4 days in VT/NH then up to Maine for 4 days where I'll then work my way down the seaboard until I get to NYC for my flight out on the 16th.
I have a technical question though. Given past experiences, what lenses should be considered. I'm thinking about bringing my 18-35, 50mm 1.4, 24-120. I'm not planning on taking anything else given the weight. Any recommendations on something I should pick up? I also have a 300MM and a 80-400, but both are heavy.
