I am stopping over in Hong Kong in 3 weeks and was hoping to get some direction on finding a reputable photography house to purchase a 135 f2L lense. Like anywhere there will good and bad providers. I am only there for 2 days so wanted to just go to maybe 2 places to have a look (or one if everyone agrees on a standout).
I was in hk a couple of weeks ago. Was looking for the 135 f2.
Best qoute I got was 6100 in a shop in central, but they would need a week to get it ...
Almost no shops have this lense in stock
Best price that had the lense, 6200 HKD in Mong Kok, Man Shing.
They let me try it for a few test shots. I did not buy it btw, someone hit me please
When I have FF maybe
Man Shing along with Wing Shing are perhaps the most reputable places for camera gear in hk.
Easy to find, not far from the subway stop in Mong Kok
I would recommend them, especially considering what you are looking for.
I've bought camera gear on several occasions over the years in HK. Stay away form anywehre in Tsim Sha Tsui on the main street as they are for suckers only often have copied goods rude staff that won't let you examine the actual camera or lens you want to buy. Man Shing and his borther's shop Wing Shing have good reputatin in Mong Kok but I found them too busy to talk to me and a little over priced.
David Chan 15 Champagne Court, off Kimberly Road in Tsim Sha Tsui has an excelelnt reputation and some fantastic used lens deals. But I found the most knowledegable staff on HK island on Stanley Street, especially Everbest Photo Supplies 28B Stanly Street. They are tiny shops but have all the best equipment and L lenses, even if they are not on display and a lot of local pros shop there too. They won't haggle much but all the equipment is genuine and fully guanrateed... plus they will actually talk to you.

HK has a lot of grey area stuff so you can get good prices. HK has great food leh so enjoy lah! Very shiok one you know.
Aiya.. your Singlish isn't applicable to someone who is visiting HK.
I second buying from Tin Cheung. They offer great price for grey goods!
But if u need to mail order, u get get it from Poon who offer great price and fast shipping!
Might be worth checking out :
UR Galaxy Ltd, at Shop G11,Tung Ying Building Shopping Arcade, 100 Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong.
I have dealt with them via their ebay site with no problems, very good prices - perhaps check out site and email re your visit to HK
Man Shing and Wing Shing are brother shops, they are the biggest camera shops in Hong Kong. However, the sales are quite cocky (especially the old one), so be prepared
Get off the MTR at Tsim Sha Tsui station, exit from B1, turn right on Nathan Road, about 50m you will find Tung Ying Plaza with all those camera shops mentioned - Tin Cheung, UR Photo, Zhao Xing Ghun - TC and ZXG probably have better reputations

If you are visiting Avenue of Star. You may try Tin Cheung Camera near Tsim Sha Tsui station
I've been to Tin Cheung, that's where I bought my L-558. Very good price w/o the radio module. (but i've been told it's not compatible with the USA radio, I still have yet to confirm that.) I also definitely ENJOY the fact that they have a HUGE stock of Crumpler bags(i love them bags yo).
Their staff is friendly and definitely are pretty fun to converse with. But it's possible that I might've been saved the slighting due to the fact I have more than casual proficiency in Cantonese. :P
I have always used Man Shing (I find Frankie very helpful) BUT if you TELL him what you want, he will supply it.
He will only tell you what HE recommends if you ASK him his advice (he is quite knowledgeable.) That is how I found out that the Kenko L37 Super Pro UV filter was the same as the more expensive Hoya equivalent!
In contrast, I found Win Shing off-hand....
On my last visit this April, I found Tin Cheung and really like them. They had great prices on Gitzo tripods, Lowepro bags and 'grey' Canon accessories such as remote controls, STE2's etc etc.
Would throughly recommend either Tin Cheung or Man Shing to you.
I live in HK...
TST shops can be dodgy... shops like Tin Cheung carries grey mkt stuff, and us always a few hundred (HKD) cheaper then the properly imported stuff.
If you want to buy something and not worry AT ALL, then go to Man Shing or Wing Shing. if you want to pay the least, then Tin Cheung is not a bad place... but if you want total confidence, then stick with Man Shing or Wing Shing. or even shops in Central, on Stanton street.
135/2L should be stocked everywhere.
