If Nikon still cannot produce a model that can beat the 20D then I will be very sorry for a company that used to produce cameras and lenses that took "the world's greatest pictures."
D2X may pose a challenge to the top Canon Dslr but she has nothing to contain the 20D ...

Oh my. Why don't you go out to take pictutes instead of being disappointed and inside.
I think you are all on the wrong track about the "special new feature" of the D200. My "secret source" has informed me, and have you ever know me to be wrong, that Nikon has incorporated the AWANC, pronounced "A-Wank". This is the Automatic Whiner About the Next Camera out module. Much like many of the toys our children used to play with, and perhaps a bit like the Furbies of a few years ago, at random times the AWANC wakes up and says:
"I WISH I was a Canon"...
"Time to Back(Front)-Focus, Gotcha!...."
and oh so many more.
I also have it on good authority that the D200S will be realease within 2 months of the D200 and it will add, drum roll please, new improved user installable additions to the Whines Library.......
And, as always, abosulte, utter, right from the horses...well...something, truth.....
"Buying a 20D doesn't make you a better photographer ."
Dead right, sir. The Camera is only a tool for you to use - YOU, the photographer takes that shot. But is it really??
**IF** all things (shooting conditions, etc) being constant - and I'm speaking from a pro point of view - the better camera & lens win.
Now think about that very, very carefully.
There was a time I was proud to be associated with Nikon's famous slogan:
"We take the world's greatest pictures." TRUE.
At one time, Muhamad Ali was the world's greatest heavy boxer.

Cameras dont take good pictures.
The world's best photographers take the best pictures, regardless of whether they use Nikon, Canon, large format, or pinhole camera.
Mark , might as well give up on the Bird-man , the 20D has done a jedi mind trick on him and is forcing him to spout drivel about that camera body at any and all occasions. It really isn't his fault , he cannot help himself

J
But he was speaking from a 'pro' point of view
I mentioned this before, but the last issue of Nikon World magazine had pictures from the D50, D70, D100, D1X, D2h, D2X and a few coolpix images. And....they all looked great, were truly magazine quality, and you didn't know which image was shot with what camera unless you read the credits.
'course, with my jedi powers, I could tell that non of them were Full Frame.
BTW, going out tomorrow with my D2X and my F5. It's going to be a good day!
Thanks John. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it! You told me one time that "any day is a better day when you're out shooting". I've taken it to heart

I will! I'm really looking forward to film BW again. 'course, I may even shoot some chromes too BTW, the F5 blows my mind at how fast it advances film, hehe.

I just prefer Nikon ergonomics, their focus system, their flash system, and their lenses. I`m certain not all Canon users would agree with me.
John
And I`ll take them on their timetable, not Canon`s.
John
Funny, I prefer Canon for the same reasons (well, maybe except the flash system ).
I'm glad we're all different. Makes for a fascinating world.
Is there any concrete evidence of the D200, or is it like the insanity of the Canon 5D? I would have use for a new 8+ megapixel Nikon body if it were in the <$2000 range.

No concrete evidence. Its all he said this, and she said that. "My Nikon rep ...."
Anyone telling you there is concrete evidence is either lying or is risking being fired by Nikon. When Nikon finaly/if releases the D200 we'll have the evidence. This is all the same line of "BS" we all heard last year.
Maybe it's true this year, we'll all have to wait and see.
I hope they come out w/ it, that way I can pick-up a back-up D100 dirt cheap. They take such crappy pictures, everyones wanting to get rid of them.
Ahhh and the BS you talk about materialized as the D2x so where is the BS in that?
Cheers,
Jasin.
Gee sorry I didn't mean to sound so dismisive J, just had the canon guys having a go at me.
The D200 is real and you are right a rep will not tell you what's going on but that doesn't mean that the truth is not out there.
Remember Watergate?
