I think we should start a new thread about film and printing. I want to add something about printing from film. I think a lot of people who shoot film either own a film scanner or have their film scanned at a lab. Then Photoshop, then digital printing like nothing has really happened. This is 1983 guys. Aspirin? I really want that Nikon F2AS and MD2 by the way.

I'm not really dreaming, I think I overdosed on the aspirin.... there are a good number of people going back to film, not switching from digital, but going back to what they think will save them from the sterility of digital. In the grand scheme of things, I'm sure this is really a small number of people.

At work, I won't be switching back to film---I never left---unfortunately. I wish I could go digital at the office, but we can't really afford it. Digital systems for retinal photography cost a hunnert grand, baby!

I was wondering what those systems cost....our eye doctor got a system a couple of years ago, he never would tell me what it cost, but it is one unbelievably elaborate system. I figured it was way up there. I still have a slide of my daughters eye when the doctor thought she had gotten toxoplasmosis. As I recall, we had to wait a couple of weeks just to see it. Digital has certainly changed that.
After my much beloved D100 was ripped off last December I have been anxiously expecting the D200. Nothing less than a 20D killer will do considering the long delay on behalf of Nikon to address the needs of this class of shooter. My D-70 is OK for the money and it has enabled me to keep shooting my architectural photos and using my PC Nikkors but it has always been an interim body and hopefully soon to be a back up to me once the D200 is a reality . If I had known Nikon was going to take so long to replace do something new I would have bought another D100!
My experience with the DX-1 was less than fun . I always said I could aproximate a DX-1 if I taped a brick to the bottom of my D100 and start with an almost dead battery. I hope the Nikon software that comes with it is better than Picture Project, it can't be much worse. I miss tiffs too.

Don`t let Ghengis Khan hear you say that about the D1X..
heh heh

I can't see D200 specs that I would want that do not create competition for the D2X, to wit, I am holding off on buying a D2X to see if in fact a D200 comes out with high enough pixelecount and large enough buffer for more then 2 or 3 RAWs per 30 seconds.

They've done it before. The D100 came out with specs not too far from the D1x without a buffer/firmware upgrade. It even had more pixels.
I hope we see this again with the D200 compared with the D2x. Since they've taken so long for the update, I'm anticipating a home run with this camera.

betcha its a 10 pin remote built into the camera - so you don't have to buy a grip like the mb-d100. Maybe if they do bring out a grip for a D200 - the glue will actually stay on the rubber long enough? Wishful thinking?
Yeah! I've had to glue the rubber twice now on my D100.

Really though, if you want full frame, buy a film camera. Theyre cheap, and dont have the performance problems of full frame digital.
I have to agree though, after having gone back to film, 1.5 crop is just not at satisfying.. the 105 f/2 DC lens is just so much better with 35mm.
Its a shame Kodak didn't last! Maybe we should have be more supportive of their full frame development rather than whining. In the end it just lost us the only full frame solution.

If there are any specialty camera stores of any kind left in this country. No ones really interested anymore. No individual entrepreneurs. No mom and pops, Just the trucks delivering the goods and the Wal-marts.
One day we shall see all the store signs change to" The Great Wall (Mart) of China

Speaking of which, I tried finding a lens hood last friday and no one in town had it in stock (HB-17). It's becoming common for me to hear "but we can order it in for ya" for whatever speciality store I go into be it photography or R/C or whatever. No one wants to stock anything anymore and I have seen my favorite pro shop dwindle it's stock over the last couple years. They sold off all their studio rental gear. They deminished their stock of all equipment in general and they are not the only ones I have seen do this.
Unfortunately the great wall (mart) won't even order it in! Sadly but true, if I must "order it in" I may as well do it myself because I can save a few bucks at the same time. Also realizing it was this mentality that sorta helped kill the local guy.

The same thing is true in the bicycle industry, and I would bet in every small business. Don't stock anything that you are not sure you can sell... But why would I have you order it, when I can order it myself for less? Catch 22
D200... =or > 5fps, 8 mp, mirror lockup, vertical grip, metal body F100 or better autofocus. I would be happy... with a price tag of no more than $1800... Less would be better...
