p.1 #1 · 8x10 vs 8.5x11 photo paper?

Im curious why there arent many options for 8x10 photo paper?

Why do the makers offer 4x6, 5x7... but not 8x10? Seems all the makers - HP, Epson, Ilford, etc.. all jump right to 8.5x11 - which is an awkward size that requires trimming.

Id like to print 8x10s from my printer - but I hate all the manual trimming that is needed.

Purchase roll paper and trim it - cheaper.

Duncan...my printer does not handle roll paper, else I would buy it. I think this is a valid question. When I go frame shopping I don't see many 8.5" x 11" frames!! Not many people have a use for this size.

You can always get a trimmer and cut the roll down into sheets. Rotatrim is a wonderful tool even if it is just for cutting a 8x10 print on a 8x5x11 sheet. Personally, I dont find rolls to be that much more economical than sheets.

I guess thats the whole point of this thread - if industry standard is 8x10 prints, why is photo paper not sold in that size?

My printer can print 8x10 borderless...but there isnt any paper in that size!

trimming adds more work...if it came in 8x10, it would be much easier.

After a bit of googling, I found this:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005A9VS/002-8733681-7104048?v=glance

Unfortunatly my printer (HP 1315xi) doesn't support borderless 8x10, make sure yours does before buying the paper.

Does anyone know why 8x10 size is not common? Seems there are a couple options out there, but they are obscure.

Why is the defacto 8.5x11? At the minimum, why isnt there more 8.5x11 with perforated edges to crop it to 8x10?

I guess it would be cheaper to just buy a paper cutter and stick with low cost 8.5x11... I just hate trimming...I always get it crooked

I am guessing they already "have to make" 8.5x11, so why then make 8x10 as well, or at least why make a lot of it ?

I'd like to see more 8x12 myself
