p.5 #1 · Which FMer has the best website?

Wow! I think that was a bit harsh on lance. But hes got a point. I couldnt help but be more enthralled by the fancy flash work than the photos. Also, the two stage flash thing kind of bothers me. I am trying to be constructive here though so sorry if i come off rude!

Also, and this is directed at anyone/everyone, whats the big deal with having music playing your sites, for those os you that have it? I ALWAYS find myself turning it off and being rather turned off by it. I just think its kind of cheesy and unnecessary, no matter if its hiphop or classical. A good photographer with a good website shouldnt need distracting music playing to make their website interesting, IMHO.

My website is a lot different than the others, but thats because we mostly do family, children, or bridal portraiture. Our company is marketing to upper upper class families so I tried to give our site traditional elegant style. I love some of the other sites that have been posted, but for what we do I think mine is quite nice. I did it all useing photoshop and a free webdesign program from yahoo.
Hope you like. http://www.davinciportraits.com

Something that i think a lot of beginner website designers forget, is that not everyone's computer is running at the same resolution as yours! In your case, Da Vinci, i am looking at your website on a powerbook with a 1280x852 resolution display, and i STILL cant see your entire website. I have to scroll down to see all the navigation, and a majority of the pictures on the right are cutoff with no way to scroll over and see the rest. Just think what potential customers on 800x600 or even 1024x768 screens are going to think. Yikes!

Also, your entire website is one enormous image. Im guessing you used the slice tool in photoshop to make the links and so forth. I would suggest that you take the time to learn the small amount of html it would take to slim down the size (as in its horizontal and vertical span) of your website, and make some of the text areas real text so that people can easily copy things like phone numbers and addresses. This will also make your website searchable on google, yahoo etc... Do these little things and i think youll see that it makes a big difference in the usability/viewability of your website.

Sometimes music adds something to the story. For example the intro of this site is nice: http://www.robertcharlesphoto.com

I really do like that site Hendrik, there's something about the music which makes the photos seem more "genuine".

Can I play?

The pictures aren't great which is why I've done more lurking(learning) than posting, but I've been working on the gallery code off and on for the last month.

Well I see what your saying, but i'm only using 1024x768 my self and it looks fine on my screen. How do I fix the problem. I don't know alot about real web design just ps and puting the images on the web using yahoo website builder. I would like some more advice, but I don't want to get to envolved with it because I'm pretty happy with it now. Thanks

I'm sorry to say it, but Lance's Flash website is the most obnoxious use of flash I have ever seen. It's totally all about the flash designer. I don't even get a sense of what Lance is all about, it's a total turn-off. doh, sorry.

now uuuuuummm....

hey hey hey

how about that Kyle(page 3) guy ripping off that pic of the 10d?

what happened to that? That guy just got busted HARD for copyright theft, look how he took out the copyright logo! The logo removal is just too much.If he was allowed to use the picture,he would have left it on.

WHO DOES THAT?

why isn't this thread about that?
or what to do about this picture stealing loser who calls himself a member>of FM?

I hate people that scam other people.especially if those other people are my photographs.

anyway, www.albouyphotoart.com is cool.Top shelf professional, love the look and logo.

my website?

mostly musicians and concert photography.

www.darylmalone.com. easy to use, navigate and my thumbnails are awesome. Working in the music industry, I'm lucky to work with some cool people.

They're on the website.

my web designers worked hard to make my site run well on a gamut of browsers and resoultions.

i like a nice simple approach myself. i think many Flash sites, while stunning to behold, are often overdone; all the bells and whistles actually make them harder to use as the visitor often spends a lot of time trying to decipher the navigation and control elements.

i prefer to use HTML with some PHP/MySQL on the back-end to automate and organize the images for me.

Umm, correct me if im wrong, but all i see is a weblink portal. Like one of those websites that comes up when you type an address in wrong and you just get a page full of useless web links.

Just wanted to let you know so you could correct us with the right site!

All I know is that too many sites aren't really up to my expectations in general. Maybe I'm just picky

My own site is nothing to brag about, but at least it is uncluttered and very simple to navigate, which has been the goal

http://www.nelsonfoto.com

have recently begun work. offered only as example of minimalist front-end. using simpleviewer for galleries (assorted gallery non-functional as of this moment).

at any rate, it's what I am up to - some very nice links in this thread thus far.
