This is my site. I designed and it built myself using a program called SWISHMAX. similar to flash. This one is about a year old and I have some new ideas for a better menu system and new design.
This site is fully dynamic which means, I can update all the text and image location by changing only one file. Makes it easier for modifications.
In regards to the original question as to which one is the best. Like all types of art. It really comes down to personal choice. I myself am not a fan of the stanard build of some websites, but that my opinion. It whould really be what you are proud of yourself and this will show through your style.
You've developed a fast loading, simple, good looking and well organized site. I viewed all of the sites listed in this thread, and would have to rate yours #1 for easy navigation, appearance and download speed.
Several other sites looked good, but many visitors will not wait for the slow load to complete. Others have navigation quirks that made the visit less enjoyable, even when the photography was top notch.
I personally like Flash, and now Swishmax (which I had not heard of before now, but will certainly have to investigate).
My own site is vintage mid-90s, and is extremely primitive compared to all posted here.
I appreciate what you're trying to say, but I have to disagree.
There is an old saying that locks on doors are there only to keep the honest people out. The crooks will always find a way around them. The same is true of posting images on the internet. There is nothing anyone can do that will stop someone who is intent on stealing an image, short of not posting at all.
I just think that if someone were looking for a photographer to hire for an assignment, that person's first reaction to running into what I saw on your site would be, "I don't have time for this," and they'd move on. If we're going to use the internet to advertise our work, we have to make it as easy as possible on our potential clients. The key word here being "potential."
Again, just my 2 cents.
Please remove my copyrighted image from your site. Don't copy my images again without my prior written permission.
I have seen your storm images before and think they are awesome. Would surely like to get some images of the pure power of Mother Nature. Will be sure to drop you a line if I am ever in that part of the world.
yeah I know. It pisses me off a little too. My new design will be more user freindly. I just couldn't think of any other option as I have a phobia with the average menu system.
My website is a lot different than the others, but thats because we mostly do family, children, or bridal portraiture. Our company is marketing to upper upper class families so I tried to give our site traditional elegant style. I love some of the other sites that have been posted, but for what we do I think mine is quite nice. I did it all useing photoshop and a free webdesign program from yahoo.
Hope you like. http://www.davinciportraits.com
I'm not a profesional so it may not contains enough stuff for pro FMer (like prices).
Done by myself (first version). I've tried to make things simple and moody.
I'm sorry... but this is a really bad site. In fact... there is another thread on this site talking about it. This site doesn't showcase your work as a photographer but the flash work of whoever made the site.
I love flash and I am a huge fan of using it in sites but this is an example of how NOT to make a flash site for your photography.
