I know it's been posted about flash, but I could not view at least three of the sites within the first couple of pages of this thread because of it. I like it, but don't feel it's universal enough. Some flash sites work, some don't.
I don't think she is an FM'er, but this is one of my favorite sites from a layout standpoint: www.photographybynadia.com
Go ahead and right-click an image loaded by a Flash script and try to save it to your computer. Or try to locate the folder where the images are uploaded by typing the exact web address.

(shameless self promotion...) here's my snappy site
I've handrolled it in php. The only images on the site are the photographs themselves. It does some automatic importing and scaling, and has some album/date management stuff. It's really more a photojournal than a folio site though.
I think the best thing to do if you want something on the cheap is check out some similar free php album packages. Many can be found on sourceforge.
Good job Collin
I like your site for its simplicity and quick loading
although i wish the thumbnail could be positioned
so that i dont have to use the scroll bar
also your see alone pics could have a return to previoius
or next button
which was the code you used at sourceforge ??
looks interesting site
I will present my own but I will certainly not vote for it. I am brand new to photography and web building, design, etc. so it is kinda garbage but it is a working progress. I started photography about 3 years ago and started web building less than a year ago. Any pointers or critiques of either are greatly appreciated. Jon. try out http://www.maddhatter.net Thanks a lot. Please do keep in mind that it is not a website dedicated solely to photography.
I tried to keep mine as simple as possible. I used frontpage express, so no flash or php or anything. I really liked livebooks design but it costs a lot. maybe when I win on the lottery
If you have time please check it out, and let me know how I could improve it.
You have a very nice site. I like the theme and the navigation is well done. The Enya music goes well with your photographs. But I have to ask whether you actually obtained approval to use the music of a major artist? Those who use music need to understand that it cannot be freely appropriated (there is buyout music that can be freely used) but it's easy for the copyright police to come after someone who uses copyrighted music without permission. I'm not saying, BTW, that you did. We're all very sensitive to the appropriation of photos, we just need to be careful about doing the same with music.
This photographer is not a FMer but he has the finest website I have ever seen and he created it himself. Visit this site: http://www.chromasia.com/iblog/about.php
and take a look at his images. Wow! Good luck and remember simple is best.

I am more impressed with his photography/style more than his site.
I can't take credit for the design for mine (EvolutionStudio) but I love the fact that I can upload/update all the galleries and pages from a browser-based control panel.
