Something I noticed about some of these shots at sporting events is that everyone always clumps together. I know that all large events have limitations on where a photographer can stand, but at smaller events, why?
If all the photographers are together, how many different shots can they all take? Why pay so many people to be there when the media companies can collectivly hire one or two to do the job of 20?
Whenever I go out to a sporting event and I see another photographer, I usually run as far away as I can (usually the other side of the court/field). Does this make me weird or look stuck-up?...Show more →
You may be in a similar position, but your composition may differ, and that sometimes make a difference
I know that there are certain spots in certain events that are good, but when I'm out on the campus quad shooting for the fun of it and all of a sudden there are three or four other people there shooting the exact same corner of a square building... it's just really annoying, especially when some of them get out tripods and interlock their legs in mine...*groan*. did i mention the quad is an acre slab of concrete and some weather-beaten trees? all the buildings look alike, can't they find another one?
OK here's one of me with the 10D (now sold on for a 20D) taken by my son who judging by his composition skills is planning to be a wedding photographer

I was kind of hoping to see a picture of myself in here. Last weekend at the RedBull Dragsterday in Detroit one of the contract RedBull photographers let me use his 300 f2.8 IS lens for an hour.
It is amazing how my attention you attract with one of those HUGE white lenses.
For you big lens shooters. I just purchased a Bogen monopod with a 3229 swivel head. The swivel head doesn't allow me to shoot in the vertical position. I was wondering if you need a special tripod collar to shoot vertically? Or is it the monopod/tripod head itself?
