Nice "SLR"

I was wondering how long it would take someone to notice my attempt at humor.

For those who don't know or didn't realize it. The car pictured is the Mercedes/McLaren SLR supercar.

ISO1600: Hahaha! Trust me, it's a Honda Civic! 1988 to be exact. The photo was taken during a short cruise organized by a local car club so I'm very much aware of which cars were with us (probably about 15 cars showed up?). Poor guy's car broke down on the way home too

It is strange I noticed it when I put the tc on and then shoot wide open it makes almost a stained glass look in the back ground. With out it is just normal.

From the Cleveland Air show... this guy had pretty nice counter balance rig setup for sky shooting with his 600.

Any idea why he set it up that way? The only thing I can think of is that he wanted to avoid having to pay attention to where the tripod's legs are.

Hey UFO

Great shot. Is it my eyes... but that 600 looks like its made of toilet rolls. Its very lopsided if you put a rule against the underside and then across the top. Its bowing alarmingly. I think he can only be seeing the bottom edge of it !

Just hope its not my monitor ...

From Saturday's Pitt - ND game, as a Pitt fan, I had more fun watching these guys than I did the football players.

Delta, not sure if you got it, but a FM member was shooting that game from the sidelines with a new (to him) 300 2.8.....

It appeared to me that this allowed him to shoot closer to vertical than having a more conventional setup of the 600 centered in his Wimberley

Didn't notice until you mentioned it. It sure does look like the back half of the lens is on a lower centerline than the front half.

Here is another shot of him (that really doesn't shed any light in the issue ).

Take another look. He is actually shooting w/ another lens on his camera. The 600 is actually in front of him mounted on the tripod w/o a body attached.

I shoot quite a few air shows and I think this tripod and Wimberly is a little over-kill. Not to mention, it is more of a hinderance that anything. You would have to walk around the tripod in order to track the aircraft. Thank God he is not in the crowd with that set-up.

I use the Bigma, 50-500. Perhaps this gentleman should be using a 100-400 with or w/o a TC. Either of these lenses would be much more practical in my opinion, and experience.

This is the staff photographer from the local weekly newspaper. I felt bad as he had a Canon 20D & grip, 550ex, but just the 18-55mm kit lens.
