The switches on the 70-200mm are a little sensitive to the touch. If I run my fingers near them when I'm switching between zooming and focusing they sometimes get flipped. If you're planning to shoot something at one main setting on the switches then its helpful to tape them down.

Why would you tape the switches down?
So you don't accidentally knock it to manual focus for example.
If your lens has the option of focusing over the whole range (slower) or just from 3 meters and beyond (might be out of focus if they get too close), you may want to "permanently" select one of the modes by taping the switch down so you don't have to worry about it while shooting or when the lens is getting bumped around in your case.

Weird, a fresnel lens snoot. Is that an old trick or someone's hacked together bleeding-edge telephoto-flash project?
That actually a "Project-A-Flash" made by Tory Lepp and available on George Lepp's site. It is similar to and predates the Arthur Morris "Better Beamer".
Have one more. From this past weekend at the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. There were several other Canon shooters there but I was too busy looking at the bikinis....
I'm guessing a 1Ds, 300 f2.8, with a 2x tc on there? http://www.pbase.com/gary/image/46803388.jpg
Here is a shot from my last safari in Tanzania. Rob Martin (lecter) and his girldfriend Sao brough their big guns, their 400mm f/2.8 (Sao) and 600mm f/4 (Rob). It's kind of funny when other safari vehicles pull up next to my safari vehicles, as there are usually a number of big lenses in my group, along with 100-400mm and similar sized lenses. Needless to say, we get a ton of attention.
