Athlon 3500+, 1GB dual channel RAM, nForce 4 motherboard, time is 42 seconds. Firefox and thunderbird running in the background. It'll be interesting to see how it does when I upgrade to dual core later this year

Dual Xeon 3.2GHZ 4GB raw, raided Raptors 74gb, 2 GB swap assigned to a 2GB ramdisk.
16 seconds. Tried it 3 times, all ~16 seconds and I have had PSCS2 running up for 2 days with bridge.
Damn you Phil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I spend all this money just so I could be able to rotate a butterfly faster than anybody else an now you've bested me, rendering my computer worthless. You've always got to one up me, don't you?
Don't worry Eric, your system is probably still good for surfing the web and reading email. That is what you get for going with AMD. Joking aside, I thought long and hard about doing the same, but what I wanted would have costed much more. I just couldn't justify it in the end. I had to catch up with you on lenses
henry -you might want to go through that original thread (see first page, link in oln's post) and see if some system matches close to yours. i thought i remembered seeing one with similar specs, but dont remember times.

Can you give a few more details of this configuration? What motherborad? What disk controllers? Did you build or buy from a manufactuer? If so, which one and what model number? I have a friend who is trying to build the fastest PS monster he can and these details would help him, no doubt.
just got my brand new PC up running with this spec:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core 4200+
4Gb High speed RAM
2* 74Gb Raptor disks, one for OS and one for scratch
Win XP prof sp2
PS CS2
Ran the test 2 times, one with 2 CPU's running at 100% clocked in at 22,8 seconds, then I forced Photoshop to run at only one CPU (Used THG Task Assignment Manager), the time I got then was 45,7 seconds.
This result show 2 important features with the AMD dual core implementation: In this test PSCS2 scales 100% when using 2 CPU's, and it perfoms in par with the Opteron dual CPU set up, the Opteron 250 runs at 2.4Ghz and the 4200+ runs at 2.2Ghz explaining the difference between 20 second for the dual Opteron setup Eric showed us vs. my setup. That is good news, since a AMD dual core CPU's easily fit into socket 939 based Motherboards.
As a long time PC user, I was ready to jump ship and join the Mac world this spring. However I was really disapointed with the Power Mac upgrade in April, and decided to build my own AMD based dual core machine.
My question, based on your comment, will Tiger be available to x86 machines, or will Apple keep the facinating OS for themselves on their new platform? There should be no other reason than politics, and that would be a shame. The only Personal computer that have survived along the WinTel platform is the Mac.
Excuse my asking - what's so fascinating about OSX? I haven't used it, so am curious about why everyone's raving about it? My machine doesn't seem bad at all - 35.78 seconds, with "just" 1 GB RAM and just 1 HDD. :-)
