p.1 #1Share your Mono or B&W process

What is everybody using and/or doing to generate their B&W images?

I know a few of the regular posters in the dedicated B&W presentation board use dedicated mono cams. The images are definitely nice, but I have avoided going down that path primarily due to the inability to adjust filtration in post.

I know other use dedicated mono software like Silver FX. I've tried it, but have found that I could get to the same end-point in C1>PS which I already owned. Then I moved to all Adobe earlier this year and it took a bit in ACR>PS to get there, but especially with the recent changes to ACR I feel I can do most things pretty well there with the added benefit of having the b&W color-mixer for a high level of tone tweaking.

Next, I recently saw an image tagged as B&W in the basic Sony forum, and it was a stunning capture and beautifully processed. But it wasn't true B&W, it was a desaturation to the point I think most could tell; it came across almost like a split-tone but too complex. Nonetheless it was a fine image and I liked the result and hope I'll see more similar from that photographer. So do any of you de-saturate and tweak from there?

If you care to share, what, how and why do you use whatever you use?

I've gone exactly the same route as you over the years.

Silver FX and I've developed some custom prefix that I use to get me 95% of the way there.
