In days gone by there were far more insiders leaking useful info, but most companies have tightened up on it.
Now the rumor sites are even more wrong and not accountable for errors.

What’s wrong with NR? They accurately got info on the Z6 III, Z8, Zr, Zfc, and many lenses LONG before anyone else. Somewhere out there someone is 100% correct all the time. But yeah agreed on the title, and will change it.

What’s wrong with NR? They accurately got info on the Z6 III, Z8, Zr, Zfc, and many lenses LONG before anyone else. Somewhere out there someone is 100% correct all the time. But yeah agreed on the title, and will change it.

Lots of people just can’t take when a rumor site is wrong. My own view is that NikonRumors is directionally right, and it has the details correct often enough for me to keep following. Given that it’s a rumor site, I don’t care much about the misses.

For the most part, the rumor sites are usually fairly accurate. It's not like we have another source of information to help us plan our future gear purchase decisions. While I wish we had roadmaps to go off of, it's very rare we get one. I do wonder how many of the rumors are actually insiders leaking vs marketing purposely leaking info. Rumors do make a nice product buzz in online photography circles. It would almost be bad marketing not to take advantage of them.

First, let me be clear please: I didn't say "blehhhhh NR suxxxx lol". I said that the title of this post is misleading, and it is [EDIT: was]. I read it and thought, "oh, news!" But it wasn't news. It was another guess from NR — and that's fun, but the title should indicate that.
Now to the tangential question.
NR's record is simple: They're at about 20% hit rate on rumors more than 2 weeks out. This is in line with people on Reddit who make stuff up, generally. And that 20% includes *repeated* guesses, so the actual hit rate is lower.
They clearly have someone on the inside in the distribution chain, and it seems they *used* to have someone in the supply chain, but that's dried up. They've been surprised too often lately, when they used to have at least whispers of a scoop.
But if they say something is being released in 7 days? You can be sure that's correct, give or take a days. Once Nikon *ships* something, their "rumors" record is impeccable.
