I held an M body for the first time this year at a shop while inspecting a lens. I think just using one for a whole minute got me hooked. Held it to my eye, took a photo, and that was it. Hard to explain and rationalise but that’s all I need from a camera. But I digress.
The question I have now is which one to get. An M262 might be within my budget next year. Should I get that or just keep saving to get an M10. Two things that come up with these two cameras is 1) Live view vs no live view and 2) Low light performance.
Are these two really deal breakers for most people? For 2) is low light so bad in the M262 that I’m gonna have to use it during good light only or use noise reduction software on photos taken at night? For 1) I’ve really stuffed up some pics that needed some really precise compositions on my M6 because of it being a rangefinder. So I’ve learnt to not take those and/or try to adjust for where the lens is. Is live view really that beneficial or necessary?
Any other important details about these two is welcome, including ergonomics, battery life etc
Start with the 262 and learn to work within its limitations. Find a prime FL you love and just enjoy shooting with it. It’s addictive. If you find that you really enjoy the experience, you can always sell it for what you paid and eventually move up to an M10, M11, or M12. Just keep in mind that newer bodies and better specs don’t necessarily make photography any more enjoyable.
I had them all and could use any of them since the M240 as it is more than enough.
Even the M9 with the new sensor is a nice camera but the high iso, small screen and shutter noise are hard to overlook when used to more recent digital M.
