p.1 #1 DISREGARD Question: Nikon D810 With MB-D12 RESOLVED
I just purchased a Nikon D810 and it came with this. I want to use the camera without the MB-D12. Do I need to order a base plate? It came with an RRS L bracket .
Thank you I want to use the L bracket but in the future if I sell the camera and it has no Base plate it might be hard to sell it or I would have to sell it at a discount.
I might decide to sell the MB-D12 as I prefer not to use it Thank you
p.1 #2 DISREGARD Question: Nikon D810 With MB-D12 RESOLVED
A base plate, like an L-bracket, is a 3rd party accessory. Usually, Arca-Swiss base plates and L-brackets don't add much to the value of a used camera. Some photographers don't even use them or have another type of mounting system, e.g. Manfrotto.

The D810 has a rubber cover that you remove in order to attach the MB-D12, and there is an indentation in the MB-D12 to store that cover. When you remove the MB-D12 check to make sure the previous owner did store the rubber cover there so you can reattach it to the bottom of the D810.
