Martha Jane Burke, more famously known as 'Calamity Jane', had one dying request -- she wanted to by buried beside 'Wild Bill' Hickok -- or so her grave marker says.
Wild Bill died in 1876 when he was shot in the back of the head while playing poker, while Calamity Jane died in 1903 after a drunken binge. The four men who planned Calamity Jane's burial claimed that Wild Bill had no use for Calamity, even though she claimed to have had his daughter. They said that they actually buried her next to Wild Bill as a 'posthumous' joke.
Their graves are in Mount Moriah Cemetary in Deadwood, South Dakota.
