The MTF curves look really good, it seems.

Hard to say without some image samples. MTF charts only tell a part of the story. I already have the Sigma 23mm f/1.4 so probably wouldn't get this, though the aperture ring is nice.

Their AF zoom was a total dud in both image quality and autofocus.

Hopefully a simpler optical design can fix the first issue and hopefully help the second with less glass to push around.

You meant their 24-50? Oh, I was curious to try it out.
I didn’t know it’s a bust. Not many reviews of that lens on YouTube.

Well, I have one (in E-mount) and I disagree about it being a 'total dud'. I replaced my Sony 24-50 with it and it's giving me more pleasing images to my eye. I've also not had an OOF photo from it yet.

Though I haven't used it a lot yet, and I'm only ever using AF-S to be fair. Event work is its main job for me, and possibly some travel, but no opportunities for that yet.

Now I want to try it again

Travel is my main use case.

I wound up buying one of these.

Theres a youtube review here (now pulled):

The video review wasnt super deep or anything, but the creator really liked the lens and the photos he shared that were taken with it were nice.

hoping more info comes out soon. it's a bit odd to release a lens for pre-order and have basically 0 info about it.
