I visited Nickerson Beach the other day. It was a bit windy because of the Northeaster off the coast yet I went there because I knew that would create large waves to use in my compositions. It has been a good year for the Oystercatchers as they continue to build population after Sandy and Irene. There were two colonies on the beach totaling about 50 each and this is the most I've seen at one time since Sandy in 2012. With the bathing crowds gone, it was just me and the birds and I enjoyed the solitude. I arrived late afternoon on this cloud free day and I was surprised how harsh the light was for late afternoon, yet the conditions turned magical as the sun set. I'll be sharing those photos in other posts.
