There are online posts stating that this iconic landmark of the badlands of New Mexico has collapsed. Most likely from natural causes but one wonders if all those instagramers climbing on top had something to do. Probably unlikely as this was a massive slab of stone.
I was there a couple of times and now I cherish those memories, especially on a clear night. It was absolutely inspiring being near this monolith under some of the darkest skies in the world. I hope that others in this forum got to visit the majestic King of Wings.
These are shots from my latest outing a few years ago.
Great photos, but aw dang! I'm glad you posted about it, because I'll be in that area next week and had been planning on seeing that for the first time. Would have been an enormous downer to get out there and find it collapsed after driving all that way.

You can still visit the other landmarks in the area, there are so many. I don’t know how the dirt roads will be after the crazy monsoon we had this year.

Oh yeah, I'm still going and gonna try to make the most of it. Right now just trying to work out the timing, because it looks like a lot of rain today through Sunday, and I don't want to get stuck in a mud pit on those roads!
