I spent this past weekend on Mount Desert Island (MDI) in Acadia National Park, Maine, photographing a marathon. Of course, I couldn't just head straight home without doing a little exploring! πΈπ
Bass Harbor had been on my photography bucket list for quite some time, and when I realized I was only FIVE miles away, I knew I had to make a detour!
Apparently, about 40 other people had the same idea! π When I arrived, the line of cars waiting to get into the tiny parking lot was about 40 cars deep. But seriously, I was only five miles away from a bucket-list location and FOUR HOURS from home. There was absolutely NO WAY I was turning around now!
After finally finding a parking spot, I headed down the wooden stairs and began what I can only describe as some serious negotiations with the rocks. Let's just say getting into position for the shot required a little more flexibility, balance, and determination than I had planned on! π€£
But this is the shot I came home with, and I'd say it was worth every minute of waiting, every awkward rock scramble, and all that unexpected exercise!
And because apparently I hadn't done quite enough exploring, I made one more stop on my way off the island! I couldn't pass up the opportunity to photograph the historic Somesville Historical Museum with its iconic white arched bridge. It's one of those classic Maine scenes that practically begs to be photographed, and naturally, I was happy to oblige! πΈ
Two iconic Maine photo stops, a little unexpected exercise, some beautiful fall scenery, and a few more miles added to the trip home. Not a bad way to wrap up a weekend!
Bucket-list location: CHECK! β πΈ
Sometimes the adventure of getting the shot is almost as memorable as the photo itself! β€οΈπ
