As I have done every fall for a few decades, I spent time photographing the autumn color transition in the Eastern Sierra Nevada earlier in October. The highlight here is typically the aspen groves, but the color comes from other vegetation as well.
Most of my fall color photographs — with a few exceptions — are made in "quiet light," the softer light in shadows and in the very early morning and late evening. Aspen color is intense — sometimes so much so that it overwhelms everything other than the color itself. The light I prefer softens the effect and helps open shadow details.
Enjoy!
