This authentic, rare Soviet-era portrait lens features an M42 screw mount and a rotatable tripod collar, making it incredibly easy to adapt to modern mirrorless cameras.
Manufactured at the height of the KMZ factory's prime, this 1978 edition utilizes traditional single-coatings to deliver the absolute peak of the lens’s legendary, dizzying "swirly" bokeh and dreamlike rendering.
Mechanically, the glass is nearly spotless (no haze or fungus, just a few specs of dust) and focus is smooth and a bit stiff as is the norm. There are two small dings on the outer metal barrel and there is some oil on the aperture blades - which is completely standard for these vintage Soviet lenses and does not affect performance.
The Helios 40-2 85mm f/1.5 offers striking cinematic flares and a distinct vintage character that clinically perfect modern lenses simply cannot replicate.
It's a remarkably expressive and fun lens to shoot, and finding one with glass this clean is nearly impossible to do.
