I view it as an expensive toy. Which doesn’t take anything away from it, but it’s definitely niche! I’ve tried a few fisheyes over the years, and made a few interesting images, but speaking for myself, I never really got into using them. Regardless, I’ll look forward to seeing your images from it. Enjoy!
I did buy it ahead of a Rome trip. I used to own a diagonal fisheye from my DSLR days. I loved it for immersive landscapes, where straight lines are not that relevant, espescially if you keep the horizon level or only slightly bent as if it was the earth curve.
While exploring grand buildings I love it for shooting the ceilings of round towers, crossways in churches and any vast roof from underneath. In addition it lends itself to the depiction of modern curvy archtecture.
Interestingly, compared to ultra wide angle lenses, objects an people at the edge are much less stretched.
So it isn‘t a lens for every situation but when needed it can be usful for depicting vast spaces. As few other fisheye zooms it can either be used in the sense of a 180 degree diagonal fisheye (14-16mm fisheyes) or depicting what it sees as a round bal (6-8mm fisheyes on full frame). I hardly use the steps in between, but the lens reprents two types of fisheye in one barrel.
