My favorite E Leitz lens but Leica Camera AG will almost certainly botch their new version. Key features of the classic version are whole-stop aperture clicks, and a long throw plus the broad DOF scale that comes with it. There's also the matter of 1960 build quality that Leica today cannot reproduce.

This may be the affordable Leica M lens that I've been waiting for.
I've been eyeing a used Summarit-M 35mm lens, but would consider a new lens first if it became available.

Nice! My 35 f/2.8 Summaron is glued to my M2. Wonderful little lens. I welcome a reasonably-priced new one, if for no other reason than to help keep the old ones reasonably priced

If the €2,000 price holds up, this could be the cheapest Leica M lenses in production. I believe the cheapest right now is the Elmarit-M 28mm f/2.8 ASPH at euro 2,550. Even the "Classic line" Summaron-M 28mm f/5.6 is ~ €3,600.

i wish Leica would make a no compromise exact copy of the legacy lens involved instead of crowd pleasing changes in filter size etc,,,
Also numerous people complained of poor build quality of the aperture ring on the steel rim reissue but maybe the original was rubbish?
I also doubt they can produce the production quality of the lenses in the period before 1980 but i want the company to thrive so hey-ho.
