Im sure some of you have or will eventually run into this new thing going around. But ArtCraft used AI to basically copy (vibe code) Adobe's software, and made it free. Basically Premier, Lightroom, Photoshop. I opened RAW files. It seems ok.. I'll keep messing it with more. But it immediately has limitations, like color temps, no presets.. etc. It's a basic photoshop its open-source though.

How is this software different from the one here? https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1958952/

I understand the appeal of “You get Photoshop for free!”

But this is a very dangerous path we’re on. If they can get Photoshop for free (quote/unquote), they can get doctor’s visits, tax advice banking… and ultimately almost everyone’s livelihood “for free.”

And don’t forget that virtually none of this stuff is really “free.” I recall the (very) early days of Facebook, as one example, which was remarkable and “free,” or so it seemed — it appeared to have so much promise. But Think about how that has played out.

Adobe has its issues, as do all of the other commercial alternatives — they all have a lot to offers, but none is perfect. But it takes tons of people doing very sophisticated creative, technical, and business work to make those products happen. Unless each of us believes that our own work is without any value and that it should be free (which might make your boss happy, but…) there are profound dangers in going blindly down this path.

Stepping down from the soapbox and departing to make photographs…

As I understand they copycat how the software looks but not all the image processing algorhytms inside, not the lens profiles database, not any machine learning tools like NR etc.
Better to use legally free Affinity though (which lacks DAM fuctionality - but I would not trust that vibe-slop app such data as years of archive anyway)

The return on investment when your product is stolen in its entirety is zero, and no one will give their money or labor for nothing.

If this copy were to actually work and not be an illegal form of intellectual property theft, it would be the end of high level post-processing software as we know it. It would do to processing and editing software what Napster did to the music industry.

Something new might well emerge--for example, open source AI editing software. But that path is very unpredictable in terms of quality, privacy, copyright protections, and security.

On the other hand, AI integrated into what a company like Adobe can do would be a reliable and trustworthy product.

If you are getting something for free, then you are the product.
