A1II shooter here, I highly doubt my lens is "special"... but no complaints or issues. It's sharp, AF hits and is responsive. Not sure what others might be experiencing but if it were wide spread, I think we would see more issues posted across the net IMO.

Someone here said they think the older cameras don't do well with the new lenses? For me on my old original A1 the AF seemed pretty good, as good as 300+2x TC that I regularly use. It was a bit iffy with the 1.4x on though but I think that requires more testing from my part. But yea if sony updates firmware to make it better that would be great, but how long would that take? 600F4 firmware update was released early in 2026, after 2019 release lol?

Maybe most people with a1iis just suck at taking pics? When I wrote this, I almost named you as the exception. I see far more positive reviews with the r6. Whatever. I'm still not buying it until a few come up second hand. But I'm excited for it.

Buy one if you haven't... see if it works... if it sucks... send it back. Pretty simple if you are in the market.

mine arrived late last week. the lens is not just "usable" but tack sharp with the 1.4X TC and the AF is rapid... I will publish my review after I get more time with it but initial impressions are very positive
some examples with A1 II 600 f6/2.3 GM + 1.4X TC. Handheld

Fantastic shots! So glad you are enjoying the lens. I can't stop talking about it, lol, still amazed at how light and small it is and how sharp the files are from it.

Excellent examples of what you can get with the lens with TC. I got mine last week and agree it's an excellent lens. Amazingly light, very sharp, and AF is superb even with the TC.

Incredible set of images. I think it's going to be a stellar lens. Mine arrives tomorrow.
