p.1 #1 · Lionel Messi from Columbus Crew vs. Inter Miami last night
My wife is a huge Lionel Messi fan, so for her birthday we went to the Columbus Crew vs. Inter Miami match last night. We had good but not great seats (about the top of the goal box on one end 16 rows up). I used my R5 II and rented a 100-500L (we were able to get the lens in even though it was technically not according to the rules of the stadium--it is 8 inches long not extended and the rules say any lens must be no longer than 6 inches extended), and as the match started at 7:00PM it was pretty dark even with professional sports lighting. I was able to get some serviceable shots, which you can see below. High ISO and a bit of cropping was still necessary so nothing like professional quality, but my wife was pleased with the results, so I was happy.
Edit: It was a great match. Columbus won 2 to 1 and got the winning goal with just over a minute left in injury time at the end of the match. Messi scored a goal on a beautiful free kick, but I wasn't able to get a decent shot of that as it was all the way across the pitch at the other end. Also, this is likely Messi's last professional appearance in North America as he is skipping the rest of the MLS season.
