Blackwater NWR is on Maryland's Eastern Shore and is the Winter "hoe" of many Northern winged birds. It is also a resting place for those winged flyers heading further South.

It is some kind of "tall sea grass" Douglas. IT had been permanently bent from winds coming off the Chesapeake Bay.
The grass is actually sitting both inside the tree trunk and at it's backside. There is a limb on our left supporting what is left of the tree trunk. Had barnacles on it so at high tides it must have been submerged.

The shape/form caught my eye instantly on a very still cloudy day. The "stump" was a bit crusty and looks very distorted when shot. Didn't look that bad when I viewed it.
