p.1 #1A pirate as a friend
I so wish I had the talent for portrait photography but it's not me! However once in a while I put something together that I like

This is my girlfriends lovely daughter, I call her my daughter as well, she loves the camera, we were at the Renaissance Festival here in Ohio and my girlfriend had posed her and I grabbed this image.

Always feel free to C&C trust me I have broad shoulders

Thanks for the visit ....
Karl

My hat is off to you all that do this all the time and give me some great portraits to appreciate!

Nice one Karl.

I very much appreciate your perspective on those who are GOOD at portrait photography ... and there is very much a "skill set" involved with it that many folks do NOT possess.

That said, you have done an EXCELLENT job of revealing the fact that the "magic" skill set in portrait photography is the ability to establish a relationship with the subject in a way that ALLOWS them to be themselves. When / where the subject already has that relationship (you / your daughter, its obvious), or they are naturally comfortable in front of a camera, with strangers, etc. ... they can then be captured in a way that lets them shine through.

However, many subjects are not naturally inclined that way, and the photographer has to be able to develop / extract that relationship. THIS is what MOST folks lack when it pertains to coming up short on portrait photographer. Me ... I'm good with dogs and kids. Adults, not so much.

I recall one of our fellow photographers (Ellis, maybe John T, iirc) who said something like the first 30 minutes of a 2 hours session is spent in developing that relationship, before things even begin to unveil themselves. The absence of facial tension in your daughter tells the story of your / her relationship ... she trusts you implicitly.

So, as a Dad ... Bravo. As a photographer ... Bravo.

Gosh you are making me blush
Thanks so much for those exceptionally kind words Kent! I am one who does not like to invade ones personal space so portrait work for me does not even begin to become natural, it's a struggle. I am not at all comfortable in front of the camera so for me I feel others are like me but I know differently..
I do have the advantage that my gf used to work for Barbazon and is good at helping establish poses, she actually with her iPhone is a very capable photographer but wants no part of a more capable system to be confused by

Thanks again, glad you saw something positive in it
