Looking at trading one of my M10s for an X2D (mark I) body. Been reading that while not as capable as the X2D II it should still offer a solid 7 stops of IBIS. But what have you found it to be in practice? The math says I should be able to handhold the 45P for at least 1-2 seconds which would be amazing and remove the need for a tripod entirely in most cases.
The farthest I have pushed it so far is two seconds capturing a night cockpit image as we climbed out of Dulles on the way to Norway. The combo was the X2D2 withe the 35-100E mounted on it. Every exposure was tack sharp. I regularly shoot propeller aircraft air to air at 1/30th and below in order to capture full prop discs and the camera has performed flawlessly.
I have a minor hand tremor, and I get about 50% tack sharp keepers at 2s and probably 80-85% at 1s, at 38mm. That is at least twice as good as my experience with the a1, probably more like 4-8x, as i almost never tried hat with the a1, due to the low keeper rate.
The original X2D still has sensational IBIS. Better than every small format camera I’ve used besides Olympus, which is about equal. I’ve shot the X2D at 1s regularly and would say it’s around 50-60% successful, which is insane.
The X2D2 is better again but only if you use the Phocus app to give it the GPS co-ordinates it needs to calculate rotation. Once enabled it’s basically black magic. 1s almost feels trivial.
Thanks for the input! It's _very_ rare that I would need more than 1 or 2 seconds so this should free me from the tripod shackles in most cases. I was on a few landscape trips with the S1R and I felt going slow than say 1/15 was getting into questionable territory.
