I have the 600/4, 200-600 and 400-800. I will only consider the 600/6.3 if the image quality including bokeh is much better than the 200-600. When I was on an African safari and later a trip to Vietnam -- the range the 200-600 offered was important. There were times that 600mm was too much. Of course for the bird photos-- would have been nice to have the 400-800mm or. the 600/4 with a TC. The reduced size and weight would definitely be a plus for hiking. Lets see some comparisons..
Standing firm, personally, but I am excited to get our eval copies in at work. It should be a couple of weeks and I think we're getting the 400 first. It sounds like demand for the 600 is high.

From the reviews so far, the 600 will find a place in my backpack. I shoot primarily landscape, but like to shoot birds if I happen on something interesting. So I can put up with 1 kg in order to have the option to shoot birds.
Hey guys! I just pre-ordered the 400mm/F4.5 GM at my local Sony store. They aren’t sure about the shipping date yet, but they already have a demo lens in stock. Such a magical lens—crazy light, it honestly feels like holding a Stanley cup. I feel like I could easily hike 10 miles with this on my back!
I have pre-ordered the 600. I really like the range of the 100-400 4.5 so have no need for the 400 prime. I’m not planning om getting rid of my 600 f4 or Siggy 300-600. I’d prefer to use those but sometimes they’re too big for travel. The 600 6.4 is a real contender for my Antarctica rip in December/january along with the 100-400.
If anything is on the chopping block is my newly acquired 400 2.8.
