p.2 #1 · It’s official, something new is coming from Pentax
i think they're in the cusp of revealing something revolutionary: imagine a camera system that instead of just essentially a direct feed of what the imaging sensor sees, they will buck the trend and instead use an optical solutionn that employs a system of mirrors that shows you what the lens sees, making the viewfinder untethered from the limits of EVF technology.

Clearly no new information from Pentax. I’m left contemplating the core of their message: “… products that allow more people to enjoy the process of photography itself.” First, the “allow more people” bit. What’s hindering people now? With cell phones, exponentially more people are taking more (and better) pictures than any time in history. So, I think Pentax is saying that people are not enjoying it and/or people are missing the real process of photography. What’s can they mean? Optical viewfinder?Manual focus? Screenless? These are means to an end. How about a product that helps me capture the decisive moment? Helps me isolate the subject? Let’s me capture the light and the mood? Pentax is too small to be first to market with new technology, but they can be first with a new or unique take on the experience. Ricoh did it — they built generations of GR products around the concept — not original or unique to them —that your camera should always be with you and not be an impediment, either physically or technically. I’m looking for something built around a concept or experience, not a technology.

+1
Pentax tries to wax poetic in their marketing with an alluring Siren's Song.
Nostalgia is a strong emotional tug ... waiting to see if they can actually bring something to market that embodies and facilitates the simplicity of yore in a way that is an unencumbered joy.
Given their "bent" on the optical excellence of their pentaprism design, I'd be curious to see if they lean into that strongly still ... ground glass ... similar to BrightScreen / 100% silver mirror, etc. comes to mind. Going that route loses matrix metering and phase detection, but the experience of "seeing" better through the viewfinder (their bent about their Pentaprism) could be the return embracing the "real process(es)" of photography.
Imo, seeing (max light, ground glass, optical diffusion / snap in focus), manual focus (i.e. not AF), and exposure (i.e. not coputational matrix) cognition ... those three (tool oriented) are key aspects to the process of photography (note: "process", not to be confused with composition, creativity, etc.) They speak not that much toward the creative side, not directly. But, seeing well ... Pentax has previously waxed about it's impact on where seeing starts the process. RF's have a similar perspective about how one sees the scene (albeit RF vs. SLR are opposing approaches), being integral to the "purity" of photography.
Anyway, curious to see ... (yet, anticipating a degree of disappointment) ... what they bring to the table from their Siren's Song of purity and nostalgia.

The GR team is involved with the new Pentax concept. Pentax was already decent at the photographic experience thing but the GR team is even better att honing an experience. They've been pretty ruthless with avoiding bloat.
If the proper photo people get some space to work it should be a great concept. As always the worry is beancounters and others interfering and adding anti features, "services" or some form of lock in.
Personally I think a high IQ manual focus camera would be nice for my buildings and places photography. Considering their "everyone" language a low resolution camera is more likely. Really curious what price spread you could have for various manual focus models. Seems to me it should be easier to vary build and sensor with a technically simpler camera?
