p.1 #1 · My 8-14mm Fisheye Content (20 min video + photos)

Hi everyone,

I'm back with some new content for the new Sony 8-14mm fisheye. I was honoured that Sony asked me to work on the launch campaign, so I made quite some content. My honest opinion about the lens:

- It's very tiny, only 314 grams, which is honestly great as you can just put it in your bag and forget about it. And take it out for extra creative shots.
- It's f/3.5. So not so fast, but that's why it's so tiny and light.
- Low CA And decent fine sharpness across the frame.
- No G-master, and you can see it regarding sharpness. Even though the sharpness across the frame is fine, it does not keep up compared to my GM lenses on my A7RVI
- For astrophotography , stars look fine at f/3.5 including the edges. Yes, it's not fast, but it's possible
- Pushes you to get creative. Lots of fun. Most important aspect of this tiny beast.

You can see all my shots, stories and findings in my 20 minute video:

Feel free to ask any questions! Happy to answer as usual.

Thanks for watching!

Albert

The curved architecture shots were very cool.

The price is pretty steep for a lens with such limited use. I guess that's why Sony's stock price dropped this morning...

At this moment, both Sony and Canon stock is down in the US (almost exactly the same percentage)....as is the market in general. Really reaching here....

haha I think he was joking a bit But I do agree that this lens is on the expensive side. I told Sony myself But I am not deciding on the prices unfortunately.

Or is it because Canon's fisheye zoom is almost the same price...?

You're a little too left-brain oriented this morning, Ted.

(and so much for the new telephoto lenses that were rumoured to be announced this morning!)

I want my, I want my, I want my 600 f63.

Thanks Albert! A masterclass in fisheye usage. I owned the Canon a long time ago, never could get shots like that.

I haven't been able to shoot with my 7artisaan af10mm max but from in room shots it has a quick focus and I like what I see on fish eye put it on the 7r6 and crop mode it's about 14 and was only $400 and is smaller than the Sony.... So I don't think I will need to try this lens.

My Canon 8-15L was my last Canon lens I sold after adapting it to Sony's for a few years...eventually decided on a CV10 instead which I still really like for unique situations. That said this review has me wanting a fisheye again.

Could be. My son is Ted, I'm Tim.

I am not left handed. (Hopefully someone will get this....)

in portrait mode (vertical), at which focal length the image circle touches the upper/lower borders of the frame?
Which type of projection?
https://wiki.panotools.org/Fisheye_Projection

no-parallax point position is moving when zooming?

Thanks

Sorry, Tim - I don't know why I forgot that.
