p.1 #1Road Trip sequoia national park
For personal reasons, we hadn't been able to take a proper holiday since moving to the USA. If you'd told me a decade or more ago that I'd be living in SoCal and still not have seen Yosemite — the number one item on my bucket list — for the first three years here, I would have told you to go away. But that's life for you.

Yosemite will have to wait a little longer. This time we finally made our first real road trip — to Sequoia National Park instead. And it was exactly that kind of trip: get out, walk a paved trail, hop back in the car. So landscape photography took a back seat — as it has, honestly, for the last four years.

Here is the blog post Link with my impressions of X2d.

I like that first monochrome photo of the lake quite a bit. I don’t recognize the location, but I’m guessing you saw it somewhere on your way to the park?

I also applaud you for photographing the burned forest. That is a difficult subject, but one that is a part of the Sierra landscape and which has some interesting possibilities.

About moving to CA and not seeing these iconic locations, you aren’t alone! I was a college faculty member for decades, and at one point I figured out that an astonishingly large number of my students had simply not traveled at all beyond the local area where they lived.

Good for you for getting out there!

BTW, Yosemite is (obviously) worth the visit, but try to go at some time other than during the summer insanity. (I don’t go the the Valley any more during that season — it is just to nuts.) May can be crowded, but in a good waterfall year it is worth it. Fall is also a great time, with peak color in the Valley usually right around Halloween. And, of course, winter can be spectacular.

Nice work Prashant. I'm sure your patience will be rewarded. Having said that, life moves fast so take any opportunities when you can

Thanks dan. Yes, the first one was on the way to the national park.
I hope to visit Yosemite during fall/winter.

Nice job on these. I like how you found more intimate shots than grand vistas. This winter, you might visit Death Valley.

Quite a nice set. I agree on having #2 in there. It's a nice image, different from the usual - getting the damaged area. eye catching and a contrast to the fall aspen trunks type of images, too. And, like the highway congestion in spots, or urban sprawl, it's travel in California,

I can relate to living in Socal, but it being hard to get to places that are apparently close by. Great group of photos.
