I am headed on a cruise from Rome - Athens (Rome, Pompeii, Sicily, Crete, Ephesus, Corinth then Athens) in early December.
I love using my Voigtlanders on my Fuji, it just seems to work for me. Love the ergonomics, build and IQ.
I am seriously thinking of using my CV18/2.8 Skopar and 27/2 Ultron as the base kit. I have never traveled with such a small kit and considering I will be walking around 10-12 hours (especially in Rome and Athens) the idea of a featherlight kit is pretty appealing.
I also have the x-mount 35/2 apo ultron, vm 50/2 apo lanther and VM 75/1.9 Ultron (both m-mount with my Fuji M-X adapter). Here are my thoughts - open to input:
1. I know my 35/2 is technically "sharper" than my 27/2 but it is also more then 2x the size.
2. I feel I will need some longer focal length - maybe 10-15% of the time, probably more in Athens than anywhere else based on feedback I have heard, not first hand knowledge. I can toss the 50/2 or 75 in pretty easily and still just use a fanny pack (no camera bag on my shoulder or back).
3. I could pick up another lens if compelling. Here are the ones I am thinking about and why.
a. 50/1.2 Nokton (x mount). I wouldn't need the adapter and get EXIF data but sacrificing the Lanthar sharpness.
b. 90/4 Lanthar. this gets me the reach but leaves a pretty big gap between the 27 and 90.
I have reviewed my last two trips abroad and think I can get 75-85% of my images with just the 18mm and the 27/35mm focal lengths, I just seem to see the world that way. I have taken my 16-80 zoom on the last trips and get few 4-5 star images about 50mm. Also the wide end suffer a bit in the corners.
Interested in your feedback - especially those with a few miles under their belt . We are retired and traveling a bit. I have no issues with MF with my glasses.
I assume the cruise is on a boat and it will make stops? Might need something to get to any coast view...?
I'd say the 18mm, the 35mm and the 75mm... basically doubling each time. The 90mm is too much I think. I think you want to take the 27mm so I wouldn't argue against it, but I like 50mm (in FF terms).
