It may be the start, or the end, of my Leica lens journey. 😂
I’ll see how it goes first and compare it to all my other 50s to see if it’s my preference. Oh, and the smoothness of the focus ring. It’s hard to explain but it feels different to every other lens I’ve had. Mind you, I’ve been using the LLL 35mm f1.4 lately and that focus ring is not that fun to use. But just from initial impressions I feel like the ergonomics of it will make me want to shoot it a lot.
Apart from my first Leica set - a M6 TTL and a 35/2 ASPH, both back in 1999 I think it was, the Summilux 50/1.4 11891 is only Leica lens I ever bought brand new. My goal was to keep it, but sadly it was stolen in luggage storage at the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas during a trip (Bellagio refuse to admit or cover, nor did my insurance company, so that was an expensive experience...). It is a really special lens.
At the end of the day, every Leica shooter have their own rationale, motivation and justification. Some people care mostly about the output, others care as much or even more about the experience, the tacit feel of the gear, etc. There is no right or wrong answer here.
Personally, I would like to have at least my favorite focal length, be it a 50mm, 35mm or 28mm on a Leica M body, be a genuine Leica lens. I want the whole package. That's just me. But I'd happily buy a CV 28mm lens to cover those occasions I wanted something wider. If I could only have ONE lens for the M system, it would be a 35'lux FLE 11663.

I'm with ya about the 11663. It is my favorite lens period.
