p.2 #1Still using the A7RV. Should I sell it?
The A7RV is still as excellent as the day you bought it. Fantastic camera and why I will keep mine even though I use my A1mkII and A1 most the time. I debated selling mine but for now I will keep it. Have little interest in upgrading to the A7RVI. I love using my A7RV as a different tool for landscape and other uses such as macro and portrait. That is me though.

Interesting question from OP. Makes me think. There must be something wrong with me... I only have one camera, A7R3,bought used and am totally happy with it, a very capable camera.

Seriously, I have trouble understanding why anyone would realy need or want more than 2 or 3 cameras.

Easy. One is GAS. Another is they have multiple different types of imaging they enjoy doing, and certain cameras do certain tasks better than others. Then there’s the hobby interest, want to try out everything types. Also collectors. They all require deeper pockets than entry level however. They are the opposite of luddites.

Personally, unless someone is a collector, I don’t understand hanging onto older, seldom used photo gear once it’s been replaced with something newer/better/faster, be it cameras or lenses. But that’s me.

Back to topic. I bet the OP hasn’t used his A1-1 in the past year. I can sort of understand his owning both the A7Cii and CR, small size cameras with the Cii offering superior iso noise and the CR being higher resolution. But then I ask does he really use both side by side enough to justify keeping both? I suspect not… I can see holding onto the CR and A1ii, offing the A7V and A7Cii and buying the A7R6. But it only really updates him marginally, though gives him a near ideal cover it all with relevant backup kit. My .02…

Given your clear vision on how you use the A7Rv, and the fact that despite you own both A1 variants, I think you answered your own question. Keep it. Ignore the "sell before resale" crowd and the siren song of the A7R6. Unless your macro work involves very fast moving objects like run-and-gun insects in flight, for which the A9iii + 100GM macro is a uniquely amazing combination, it seems like you have a great combination of bodies and don't need to "upgrade."

My newest camera bought at the send of last year is the A7V for general shooting and it covers most of my needs.
Then there is my A7RV. For the past few years it was the camera I used for landscape, architecture, and portrait work.

You have way too many cameras IMO (hey, you asked... :-)) . It is actually liberating to lighten the load. I'd easily sell the a7RV, and one of the a7CII or R while you are at it. Even if you get $2,000 for it, $1500 for the other, that buys you some new lenses. Or put some money in the savings account for a rainy day.

Regardless, I view money lost on camera gear as cheap rent. Or buy used and let someone else pay for the depreciation. Few of use really need the latest/greatest, cameras are almost way too good at this point, there is no point of upgrading anyhow.

I see the thread is old but I also notice you haven't came to any conclusion yet. Or at least you haven't posted about it (which I think you should do).

So, here is yet an opinion:
Keep the A1 and the A1ii, sell the rest of the cameras. Yes, it may be a burden to detach the grip from one of them when out and about - but wth, it's the worst kind of first world problems I heard of for some time.

Then have a look at your lenses. Any lens not giving you any joy should be sold together with the cameras.
If you bought all that stuff new you'll make a loss. The longer you wait, the bigger the loss.

In the future try not to collect such an amount of stuff. It's really hard to see the point in buying both the A7Cii and the A7CR for example. Don't ask snegron7 for advice on these questions.

Well, that's my advice. Go back to having fun instead of having full cabinets.

Well I have resolved so issues and sold the A7CR and plan to sell the original A1 and A7RV and just need to decide how I sell those.

That leaves me with the A7C II, A7V, and A1 II. Will see were this takes me next.

Maybe it's just me but I'd sell one of the A7V or A7Cii next, I just don't see a scenario where I need 3 cameras at same time. Two at the same time while traveling would be handy for quick swap between different lenses but three is too many.

That is good progress. I would even consider chopping the a7CII. It is a capable little camera, but the a7IV-generation feels dated IMO. Having owned both the a7IV and the a7CII, and now the a7V, I much prefer the color in the RAW files and the WB of the a7V. Now if the a7CIII comes with the V sensor and a better EVF... now that would be interesting.

I don’t understand why you only use the two a1 bodies for wildlife and don’t use them for architecture or landscape. I would clean house but at least in my usage side-by-side last year in Alaska, there was nothing that the a7Rv did that my a1 (not v2) was not equal to or better than. I would either keep the two a1s and toss the rest or keep them plus your favorite a7c camera.

Just my pennies,
Jim

I think having the a7cr is good enough for landscapes. So yes I would be on the for sell vote.
