Really nice images, Gary.
You really know how to make that 100-400mm sing.
No.'s 6, 8, & 9 are my picks.

Thanks Greg. For my last few outings I've gone back to a tripod and turned off OS and I feel it's made a noticeable difference.

Your dragons are a lot less skitterish than those I find here, Gary!

Excellent set Gary !!! All wonderful, but if forced to pick it would be the inflight and the one with the ladybug . Great and enjoyable set.

Possibly. These were shot over a period of about five hours sitting in the same spot on the edge of the pond half in the water
It takes a little while for them to begin to ignore me. Also, the Olly 100-400 has an effective focal length of 200-800 in FF terms so I'm not super close to them.

Thanks very much Birdie. The in flight shots are a little about being familiar with their habits and a lot of luck. These guys are extremely erratic and very small, only about an inch and a half long. There's no way I can track them to a landing. But they're also fairly predictable. This one kept coming back to the same Water Lilly so with my camera on a tripod I prefocus on a spot on the flower and lock everything down. Then I sit and wait, with finger on the shutter button, but not looking through the viewfinder. When I see him heading for the flower I jam the shutter and every once in a while I get one in the correct plain of focus. If I'm looking through the viewfinder and waiting he's already landed before I can react to press the shutter.
And when you finally get one in focus you hope you've got a nice wing position
