Canon 90D and EF100mm f2.8 IS Macro

The seeming "softness" is coming from the intense humidity on the glass.

fog from humidity..

Two good ones Dan. I like the natural framing of the first and they both look good.

Right on my patio morris. A bit of wing flutter of excitement from the butterfly.

My giant zinnias and my 1 GIANT "cosmos", over 7 ft tall and hasn't bloomed yet!, butterflies and bees are gearing up for their trek South!

Wonderful captures, Dan'l! How can you "hide" amongst the flora in the heat and humidity?
My sedum is about a week to week and a half out yet. No sign of propagation yet from the seeds I planted, I think they need a cold period for sprouting...the balloon flowers. I should contact Karl and see if he has yet planted his!

I will post a photo of my "hide".....It is cool among the flowers Douglas but it doesn't last long!
Sorry for misspelling sedum...I have 2 varieties and 1 in red! With red flowers also!

My catalogue bought gloxinia is really growing fine but the seeds I planted I have not seen any growth. But that is not unusual. Seeds spread from last year have bloomed and are nice and compact bushy".

You and Karl need/want more balloon flower pods. let me know.....

It is a "Red Admiral Alan.

The short band of red on each wing helps "I.D" Red Admiral from Painted Lady...and I have a TON of "PL's"!!!
Thanks!

Beg to differ. The Red Admiral's red band goes straight to the front margin of the dorsal forewing. You can see in your image that there are a couple of the eye spots on the ventral hindwing which would indicate a Lady The others eye spots are torn away. Plus there is a distinctive white triangle in the center of the ventral hindwing which the Lady has.

Here is the Identification Guide that was given out at the exhibit. I can see that both are very similiar shown by both of us.

I am leaning towards your proper id because "my" Red Admiral has the wings torn and the red only shows in that 1 place..

How about just butterflies? The id is not real important and my eyes are old...
Thanks!
Dan

As a kid I called them all flutterby's, but it's all the same enjoyment to me Dan, stunning little creatures of beauty, nice work.

PS: Around here, its not the heat that gets your photography, it's the humidity. I've taken shots over water, like the skyway bridge that look like an impressionist watercolor, and that is not an exaggeration!

Oh the humidity here is killer Eric!
Today is "breathtaking". I walked outside this morning and was overwhelmed by the humidity! My patio umbrella was dripping water and not from rain.
Thanks!

Yes it is very nice!!! It is a bit too humid to enjoy right now BUT..tomorrow starts a period of Fall temps and no humidity..rather less humidity.
The shorter nights have all the creatures headed South stopping by for some energy!
Thanks!
