p.1 #1 · Greater Yellowlegs leaps out of the grass
I spotted a solitary Greater Yellowlegs feeding in a pond at the Marine Nature Study Area in Oceanside, NY. This is one of my faverate spots in the park as the pond is close to the trail and I can get down close to my subject's eye level. I adjusted my tripod for me to sit behind it and then set it and my camera in the grass at the side of the trail and I sat on a big flat rock behind the camera which is just high enough to clear most of the grass in the foreground. I took many behavioural photos as it waded in the pond about 40 feet in front of me. After about 30 minutes, it's mate flew in, squawked a few times and then flew out. The one I had been photographing was mostly obscured by grass so I changed from zone to single point with subject detection enabled and waited for my subject to follow. When my subject blasted off, my camera snapped into focus on it's eye as it flew out. These are my 3 faverate frames from the burst at 40 FPS.
