Well, it could have been this or that or this or that etc.; OM Systems (like any other company) has to weigh what they think will sell profitably; just because some of you don't like their decisions (e.g. type of screen, body material, aesthetics, technical capabilities, etc., etc.) doesn't mean that the decisions were "bad", and I doubt that anyone posting on this thread knows enough about OM Systems internal operating capabilities to state what they SHOULD have done just to please you. This forum is getting more like DPReview everyday. Well, I've watched all of the YouTube reviews and was convinced enough to place an order at 3:05 AM.
This is the first sanely priced camera since ... the Z5 II? It's really only OM and Nikon trying to deliver a lot of camera for money these days. On that alone, I hope this sells a million units and pushes other companies to compete on feature-to-price ratio, as opposed to just slowly leapfrogging each other up the cost ladder.
More broadly, I like it. It fills a market segment that somehow, many years on from the X100V catching fire, is still dramatically underserved (cool looking small cameras with big-ish sensors). When OM adds it to their EDU discount list, I'll probably pick one up.

Indeed.
I was told at an OM-3 launch event the budget was so tight, things were taken off the drawing board.
Good for OM for sticking with the budget/plan, and not going for broke, I thought.
I am of the same thinking with this new Pen. I am glad OM did not over spend on it if that's the case.
If this camera had come out last April I would have bought it to go with my OM-1 II, instead of an OM 5 II which I didn't keep very long. But I got back into Fuji and the Pen is the same size as other cameras I now own, including the X100VI and Lumix S9. These days I pick up my X-T5 much more than my OM-1. Unless I need much longer lenses or need CP features.
I do think the Pen is a good addition to the OMDS line up. I do think Panasonic can make something that could be better just by making the L10 into something with a M43 mount...
According to the specs I see now, the new PEN adds over 50 grams to the E-P7. Is it really worth the extra mass? (Is a viewfinder worth almost 60 grams?)

The cool part about the L10 lens is jumping between the standard focal lengths very quickly without having to actually zoom. The part that sucks is racking zoom all the way out or in is very slow.
I think the real time LUT business they are using for JPEGs is cutting edge and would love to see that on every camera I own.
Like you say, I do think the L10 is a better value prop, and I'm hoping to find a cheap one from someone that didn't gel with theirs.
