p.1 #1 · Treeline

Driving around where I live offers views of expansive timber clearings that reveal what life is like within the canopy. Where there is evidence of a spring or creek, even if it's seasonal, the cutters are forbidden from taking trees that protect that creek. This is done to maintain water temperatures in the tributaries they flow in to. Essentially protecting fish. It also reveals how the lower branches of Douglas Fir die off as the tree grows, conserving energy for vertical growth as they compete for light. To me, they look like sticks.

Anyway, this was mid day so I exposed it with conversion in mind.

thanks for having a look!

Greg

Hi Greg. I do enjoy this photo. Texture in the foreground, form in the mid/background. Very cool. I actually have a similar photo which is not posted, experimenting with a technique I saw Adam Gibbs on youtube, using on a tripod. Combining multiple shots with an upwards tilt adjustment between each shot. Fun to try if that's your cup of tea

Such a beautiful shot Greg, feels like they cleared the land just for you so you can get a great foreground in there as well

Thanks guys. It's crazy how fast the undergrowth springs up after a clearing. I drove past this during a road project that made this route a detour. Just sort of stood out.

As for extra techniques, I'm just embracing simplicity in my advancing years

Cheers!

That's as straight a forest edge as I have seen, Greg!

Thanks Ross, Jung, Brent and Douglas. I live in a literal cloud 9 months of the year, so I'm trying to embrace the stark contrasts that leans into B&W

FYI, they usually replant these clearings, but I didn't see any here. It takes about ten years to erase the evidence of a clearing to casual observers after replanting.

Cheers,
Greg
