p.1 #1 · WiFi/LAN Synchronized Release shutter lag measurements
Today I measured the shutter lags for Nikon's Synchronized Release feature, which lets you trigger the shutter on multiple cameras over a WiFi or LAN Network.
I synchronized two cameras - a Z6 III and Z8. First test was over LAN (using USB-to-Ethernet dongles) and second over WiFi (5G).
The Z6 II was the "master" and the Z8 was the "slave". Both using electronic shutters.
I'm using the lag testing methodology/setup described here, with both cameras photographing the LEDs.
Shutter lag over LAN:
Z6 III master 35ms, Z8 slave (35ms-60ms)
Shutter lag over WiFi:
Z6 III master 35ms, Z8 slave (60ms-200+ms)
The shot-to-shot variance in shutter lag over LAN was small but quite large over WiFi, even though the WiFi was lightly loaded and both cameras were within a few feet of the router.
